Norwegian writer and explorer Thor Heyerdahl used a Kon-Tiki raft on his 1947 expedition from South America to the Polynesian Islands, across the Pacific Ocean. Kon-Tiki got its name after the Viracocha who was Inca Sun God. Kon-Tiki also has also given a name for Heyerdahl's book, a documentary and dramatized films about his adventures which have also won Academy Awards.
