More about Traveling Around Norway – Train, Ferry, Car, Hurtigruten

Using The Hurtigruten

The term ‘Hurtigruten’ when translated into English means the ‘Express Route’ and it refers to the passenger and freight line that is run in Norway. The Hurtigruten is often called the Norwegian Coastal Express in the English language, and it is used to refer to the sailboat that is operated along the northern coast and the western coast of Norway. The Hurtigruten travels on a daily basis along the two coasts. The vessels often undertake journeys spanning the length of the whole country, and the entire trip takes only 11 days. According to numerous experts and organizations, this round trip is well deserving of the title “World’s Most Beautiful Sea Voyage”. By travelling on the Hurtigruten, one can see the majestic peaks, the startling blue waters of the rivers and lakes, the ice capped regions, the fjords and the coasts of Norway, all of which come together to paint an extremely beautiful picture. The Hurtigruten is extremely popular with both citizens of Norway and visitors who want to take in the sights and sounds of this great land in this unique manner.

Rail Transport In Norway

Rail transit in Norway is fairly popular in Norway. One can find extensive tram systems in Trondheim, Bergen and Oslo. The Oslo T-bane happens to be the only transit system in the country. In Bergen one can find the only funicular in Norway. Coupled with bus transport, rail transport happens to be the most popular means of travel within Norway.

Traveling Around By Bus In Norway

The bus transport system is extremely popular in Norway because it is affordable, extensive and offers a great chance to see the sights of the country. All the big towns, cities, ferry stops and airports are connected by the bus system, which makes it very convenient for tourists who wish to access all parts of the country. Buying tickets for travelling on the buses is easy as well, since one can usually purchase them on board. If you want to be prepared beforehand the tickets are also sold at most tourist centres in the country, along with being available at various bus stations. A strong advantage of the bus transport system in Norway is that the buses are also linked to the rural areas, hence one can easily travel the countryside and visit small places as well.
