Inside The Armoury Museum
The museum has been divided into two floors.
The first floor comprises collections which are made up of relics and pieces, that trace their roots to the various rulers and Tsars that have ruled Russia through the ages. The first chamber on the first floor houses extravagantly beautiful court dresses, robes, and religious and official vestments belonging to different rulers from different eras. These include high boots and a cane belonging to Peter the Great, as well his ceremonial robe or saccos. The famous Catherine the Great’s coronation dress is also on display in this chamber. Another chamber on the same floor houses the gold and turquoise throne presented by the Shah of Persia to Boris Godunov and the exquisitely carved throne of ivory of Ivan the Terrible, as well as the Crown of Monomakh which was the ceremonial crown of the Tsars up until 1682.
The second floor houses exhibitions of gold and silver dating back to 12th Century Russia, and relics of various kinds such as tableware, decorative pieces, Faberge eggs, jewellery, icons, and the world famous Siberian Railway Egg. The floor also houses a collection dedicated to weaponry, both Russian and foreign. This houses some exquisite pieces, such as the dagger presented to Mikhail Romanov by the Shah of Persia, and also his jewel-embedded quiver and arms case.
Finding The Armoury Museum
The Armoury Museum is located at the address Sobornaya Ploshad, Kremlin, Moscow, 103073. As a visitor to the city, you will find it most convenient to use the extensive metro system to reach the museum. The Alexandrovsky Sad Metro Station and the Borovitskaya offer the closest and easiest access to the museum compounds.
Visiting The Museum- Hours And Tickets
The Armoury Museum is kept open to the public all through the week except for on Thursdays, when it remains closed. The tours or sessions in the museum are divided into four different slots, and each of these is extended over a period of 1 hour and 45 minutes. The different sessions start at 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 2:30 PM and 4:30 PM.
Purchasing tickets to the Armoury Museum is rather simple. You can either buy them from the foyer itself, or you can pick them up from the office located within the Kutafiya Tower.
