The Curonian Spit As A Popular Holiday Destination
There are several towns and settlements on the Spit. The presence of various towns on the Spit has led to a lot of tourist activity in the region, since many of these towns are touted as tourist towns and the Curonian Spit has become one of the premier tourist attractions in Lithuania. The biggest of the towns on the Spit is the holiday resort town of Nida. The town has become one of the most visited places in Lithuania. The famous German author Thomas Mann used to have a house in the town and this serves as an attraction for people from all around the world.

Birding On The Curonian Spit
Bird watching has developed as a popular activity on the Curonian Spit with both locals and tourists. If one plans a holiday during the migratory season there are scores of varieties of birds to be spotted in the area. As the Spitis located on the path of the East Atlantic Flyway, several migratory waterfowl can be seen on the Spit from time to time. It is estimated that approximately 10 million to 20 million birds fly over the Spit yearly during the migration season in spring and autumn and many of these birds even stop at the Curonian Spit to have a rest or bring their offspring into the world.
Baltic Mythology Concerning The Curonian Spit
There is a Baltic legend, which says that the giantess Neringa created the Curonian Spit. It is said that the child giantess made the Spit while she was frolicking in the waters of the seashore. The character also makes an appearances in several other myths, though she is sometimes portrayed as a young woman who is the female counterpart of the Greek Heracles.
