More about Druskininkai Attractions

Spa Treatments and Massages

This is probably the most unique aspect of Druskininkai and no trip here is complete without getting a massage at one of the traditional spas or saunas that the city has so many of! There are a variety of massages and treatments offered at the various spa resorts or treatment centers available and apart from being physically relaxing, these massages are known to benefit the physiology in several ways. There are a variety of spas to choose from once you get there and it is hard to pick one as the best. The important thing here is the price and the location. It is advisable to visit a spa that is near your hotel and well within your budget as the quality of treatments hardly varies with price.

Grutas Sculpture Park

The Grutas Sculpture Park has metal busts of famous leaders and personalities from the Soviet era. Spread over 40 hectares, this park offers the best sights when it comes to sculptures in metal. All the idols were recovered towards the end of the USSR and kept here to make sure that they wouldn’t be sold away as scrap metal as was done with most sculptures when USSR came to an end. The park is set in a wetland which is great to visit during the winter but when summer sets in, the area is infested by hordes of insects which can make your trip quite unpleasant. It is advised to carry an insect repellent to ensure protection from bites. The park is open every day of the year from 9:00AM but closes at 17:00 in the winter and at 22:00 in the summer.

Russian Orthodox Church

The Russian Orthodox Churches are known for their unique architecture, which strays from the conventional neo-Gothic style of Roman Catholic churches. Modeled on the St. Peter’s Basilica in Moscow, this church has similar proportions and spires but the most eye catching aspect is the blue exterior. While there are very few Russian Orthodox Christians in Lithuania, churches like this one serve as a memory of the close ties between the two countries. The church is open during reasonable hours of the day but is extended even until midnight during festivals.

The major attractions of Druskininkai are the spas and the massages that they offer.
