Development of Sigulda As A Tourist Destination
After the independence of Latvia was restored in 1991 a conscious effort was taken to protect and promote the scenic beauty, natural wonders, monuments and culturally and historically significant places in Sigulda. This decision was taken in order to boost the tourism in the region.
Keeping in tandem with this new attitude, the town council chose to introduce the concept of hosting a traditional Opera Festival every year. The decision to do so was an attempt to honor the culture and tradition of the region and also provide a draw to tourists from all over. The Opera Festival is now organized every summer in an open air music hall found in the castle ruins, every year.
Another effort made to highlight the potential of the town as a holiday spot was the introduction of the Town Festival concept. The Town Festival is organized every year in the summer season. Held in May, the Town Festival is a time for all the locals and visitors to come together when the weather is bright and sunny and the cherry trees blossom fully.
