An Introduction to the Trans Siberian Railway

The Trans Siberian Railway of Russia is a framework of railway routes and lines that spread across the landmass of Eurasia, mainly in the Siberian and Baltic region, connecting various places. The Trans Siberian Railway connects the Russian capital city of Moscow and also European Russia to the Far East provinces of Russia, China, the Sea of Japan, and Mongolia. More about Trans Siberian Railway

Details about the Trans Siberian Railway

The longest railway system in the world extends to almost ten thousand kilometres. The railway routes stretch out from Moscow in Russia to the Vladivostok port in the Pacific. Owing to its sheer size and its importance in various aspects of global life, trade, commute, exchange and more, the Trans Siberian Railway is celebrated as much more than simply a means of transportation and travel.

Route Followed By the Trans Siberian Railway

The Trans Siberian Railway follows the general rule of thumb as most concepts in Russia do, and it begins in Moscow, the capital city of Russia and one of the most thriving cities in the world. The railway line then follows the rough route of the famous ‘Golden Ring’, by moving out of Moscow in the eastern direction, via the town of Vladimir. Upon reaching Nizhny Novgorod, the railway line branches into different parts. One of the parts heads out from Perm, which is a large manufacturing centre in Russia, while the other takes the route through Kazan, the capital of the Tatar Republic. The branches intersect once again in Yekaterinburg, a city in Ural, and the lines extend a few hundred miles along Kazakhstan after which the railways formally enter Siberian territory. Around halfway, the main rail line comes to Lake Baikal, the biggest freshwater lake in the world, and then the line moves to the Buryat area. The last section of the rail line runs alongside the Chinese border, via the vast and mountainous terrains of Eastern Siberia. After entering city region once again at Kharbarovsk, the rail line finally goes on to reach Vladivostok in the Pacific. The journey covers ten thousand kilometres, and is equal to eight whole days of travelling by train without stopping.

The Trans Siberian Railway Experience

Travelling on the Trans Siberian Railway is said to be an experience of a lifetime, because not only do you get to travel through a dazzling array of places in Eurasia and even stop at some of them, the journey also offers a unique perspective on the region. It has been said that taking the Tran Siberian Railway is one of the best ways to meet Russian people from all walks of life, and to intera t with locals from all over Eurasia.
