Autumn in Sweden
If all you know of Sweden is Stockholm, that's a great start, but there is so much more and autumn is the perfect time to explore not only Sweden's vibrant capital, but also this vast country that stretches out to be tasted and enjoyed. The tourists have departed and the days are quieter and shorter, but with mild sunny days as a pleasant surprise.
Sweden has 29 national parks and Stockholm itself has 9 walking paths within easy reach. The forest colours are startling as leaves turn red, yelow and orange. Mushrooms strew the forest floor and berries can be picked and added straight to the great Swedish cooking that typifies the best of Scandanavian cuisine. Arrive in Stockholm in the first week of October and enjoy a vast array of cinnamon buns - almost the national pastry - as the Swedes celebrate kanelbullens dag on October 4th.
it's not too cold to take a dip in one of Sweden's many swiming pools, as the water may well be warmer than the air. So wrap up warm, put the walking shoes on and wander through the forests before coming back to great Swedish food and entertainment.

Stockholm is a fantastic Northern city, worth visiting summer and winter: just dress for the weather. The city boasts attractions situated within a very short distance so you can easily walk or cycle and see the King's Castle near the Old Town. Stockholm has amazing views of the waterside from many locations. The architecture, art, culture and Now-Nordic gourmet on offer is truly outstanding. In the summer the Midnight Sun or in the winter go skating in the city centre.

More about Autumn in Sweden
OK, I know, Abba is unavoidable for Brits so release your inner Dancing Queen with a City break in Stockholm. You will need Money Money Money, but no need to call S.O.S. to your Mamma Mia before you say So Long.
Enough I hear you say and, for me, it certainly is, but the cornucopia of Abba compositions doesn't change the fact that Stockholm is one of Europe's jewels, so try it with or without the boys and girls of Waterloo.
