Denmark Christmas Breaks
Christmas is a very special time in Denmark. Copenhagen boasts of a number of Christmas Markets such as the market in Tivoli Gardens, the famous amusement park and garden located in the centre of Denmark's capital. Copenhagen is a great city to visit throughout the year but the city really comes alive during the Christmas period. There are plenty of culinary delights for you to try such as julefrokost - a traditional Danish Christmas buffet of local delicacies such as herrings, ham, and risalamande (a festive Danish dessert similar to rice pudding).
Copenhagen is also full of interesting sights and beautiful architecture. Sights of interest include Amalienborg, Rosenberg Castle, Christiansborg Palace, Nyhavn, a multitude of interesting museums and, perhaps the most famous symbol of Copenhagen, the Little Mermaid statue.
Copenhagen is a wonderful stepping stone for exploring the rest of Denmark. From here, you can easily travel by train to locations throughout Zealand and also South Sweden such as the picturesque Danish coastal town of Helsingor - the setting of one of Shakespeare's most famous plays, Hamlet. Just across the water from Helsingor, you can visit its Swedish twin Helsingborg or from Copenhagen you can travel across the Oresund bridge to the Swedish city of Malmo.
Denmark is wonderful destination to spend a magical Christmas break in Europe.
