Estonia is the perfect setting for a Weekend Break. Our clients are increasingly exploring this fascinating land of beach and countryside; history and modernity and truly welcoming people.
After centuries of domination by Russia or Sweden or Germany or Denmark - in certain periods all at the same time - Estonia and the Estonian people have flowered into an independent nation that achieves the highest educational standards, operates at the cutting edge of modern technology and is proud of its history. The only country to achieve independence through a Singing Revolution, this is a land with charms to enthrall the discerning and adventurous traveller.
Inhabited since the 9th Century B.C., Estonia was Europe's last pagan nation, being converted to Christianity in the 13th century. Estonians speak a language which is only shared by the Finns and Hungarians and that very loosely. When Finns travel, normally by ferry from Helsinki, to their nearest neighbour - Russia may be nearer, but is not exactly a 'neighbour' - the language in which they communicate is English and English is widely spoken throughout the country.
Tallinn, Estonia's jewel-like capital, is the top destination, famous for its cobbled Old Town, one of the best preserved mediaeval centres in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Skype started here and Tallinn is renowned for being the hot-bed of technology start-ups. Its Christmas Market attracts hundreds of visitors each year.
Roughly half the country is forested, four times that of the U.K., so this is a great land for hiking, biking and walking. Try Lahemaa National Park just 70 kilometres east of Tallinn. In an area of over 750 sq. kilometres or 290 square miles and in a country which is one of least populous in Europe, this is the perfect place for that get-away-from-it-all experience.
We know Estonia and we will take you there.
