January 2019
Overall rating: (5/5)

Hi Julija,

Apparently I have lost the mail you sent, but had read it. I arrived home the early morning of the 3rd.

Was a wonderful trip, I had a great time in Iceland !

Heavy rain the first day, everyone soaked, but ended with the Blue Lagoon which was lovely.

Day 2 and 3, weather clear. Loved the waterfalls, black sand beach and mountains.

New Year's Eve - Bonfire and fireworks.  Dinner was moved to an earlier time which caused the large group to break up before midnight.  A small group got together to see in the New Year.  Also a slight subtle view of the Northern Lights.

Dinners were good and lunch stops also, well paced and planned.

My cabin at the Arhus was dismal though.  I saw other cabins later that were upgraded unlike the one I had.  If had seen them earlier I may have asked to be moved. The Hotel Cabin made up for it, I was given rooms both nights that were "superior".  So I was the envy of the group.

Bus safe and very comfortable, good driver and excellent guide, Baldur.  He was truly a gem and I learned so much.

I thank you so very much for your help and planning.  All my arrangements were in perfect order and all went smoothly.

Warm regards and best wishes for the New Year

Cleo

Hi Julija -only got back home yesterday evening so still catching up.

But overall delighted with trip. Weather was in the main mild though when out in wind very cold. Coupled with rain on 30/12 meant got well soaked but as we ended in Blue Lagoon no big deal. No real snow

Day 2 (31/12) & 3 up in Highlands/ golden circle - loved the waterfalls and the mountains and now drunk tomato beer!!!! Weather excellent - clear & sunny !!

Logistics excellent; travel brilliant; bus & driver very safe & comfortable - guide (Baldur?) superb - brilliant knowledge & English, a delight to be with.

Two formal meals good; breakfasts fine; lunch stops good.

Only three gripes -

1) hugely expensive country - not your fault !

2) NYE arrangements a bit flat - bonfire & fireworks at 5pm , over by 6pm. Dinner brought forward to 7.30pm (convenience of hotel staff?) over by 10pm. Our firework display - over by 10.30p.m. Nothing to do till midnight so group fragmented - I was OK as helped organise a party of 6/8 of us and we saw in together (with a minimal appearance from N.Lights) but others just felt no option other than bed.

3) Only real biggie - standard of hotels very basic - not really in keeping with price of trip. Suggest you either move to upgraded pair or make it much clearer just how basic the standard pair are. Could live with Arhus chalet but Cabin tiny room and very hot.Had we known we would definitely have upgraded in R'vik as a minimum.

Overall very happy as only 4 nights spread across three hotel rooms - had it ben any longer though and hotel rooms would have been a major issue.

Oh one last thing - standard of travel consultant in UK - excellent - thank you very much for all your help & guidance. Will happily forgive your one mistake - my vouchers in name of Cleopatra! Caused a little stir at Cabin first time until we realised what had happened; thereafter became a tour joke.

Hope that helps.

Kindest regards & best wishes for a successful 2019

Andy
