Overview:

Nordic Walking is a relatively new sport but has proven to be a very healthy sport, physically and mentally - and all age groups can participate.

Nordic walking was initially called ski walking, and this may have had something to do with the fact that this physical activity involves the use of poles that resemble ski poles while you walk. The exercise of Nordic walking originated from the off-season activity that was meant to train skiers, which is called ski walking.

Holiday price is from £1,395 per person based on availability and two persons sharing a standard double/twin room. Price is based on a minimum of 8 people in the group.

Departure by train from Oslo to Myrdal, where you will transfer to the Flåm Railway. The Flåm Railway passes through wild and beautiful mountain scenery, with waterfalls and steep mountain sides from a height of 900 metres and down to the Sognefjord. There is no other adhesion railway in the world that runs on normal tracks where the journey is both long and steep. From Flåm you continue by boat on the Nærøyfjord to Gudvangen. The Nærøyfjord is the narrowest fjord channel in Europe, and has recently been added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List. From Gudvangen, the journey continues by bus through Nærøyfjord Valley and up the Stalheimskleiva, with its 13 steep hairpin bends (Stalheimskleiva is only open during the summer). The last part of the excursion will be by bus from Gudvangen to Voss where you’ll board a train for Bergen.
Accommodation at the Hotel Augustin or similar.

Day 3: Bergen – Nordic Walking

Your Norsk Nordic Walking instructor, Elin Sandal ( https://norsknordicwalking.blogspot.com ) will meet you at 9.30 am in front of the Augustin Hotel – use the cable car Fløy for Nordic Walking when up. Return via the Fløy. (Elin will supply the poles).

Day 5: Bergen – City Tour & Hurtigruten departure

City Walk including the Fish Market, Aquarium, Vintage Bus.
Meet Elin at 9.30 in front of your hotel Augustin.
Bergen is Norway’s second largest city and the world’s only city surrounded by 7 mountains and 7 fjords. Sights of interest are the Hanseatic Bryggen Harbour, Fløibanen Funicular, Troldhaugen, the Fish and Flower market, Bergen Aquarium and Gamle Bergen (Old Bergen Open Air Museum).
In the evening make your way to the harbour for an evening departure onboard your ship (20:00). Check-in opens at 15:00 and embarkation starts at 16:00, but access to the cabins will only be available from 18:00. Settle into the gentle rhythm of life on board as the ship glides along the unspoilt coast. Relax and enjoy the stunning scenery. Sample the delicious cuisine, for which Norway is renowned, in the comfortable but informal dining room, or make new friends in the bar. Share experiences with fellow passengers from all over the world, as well as meeting local people traveling between ports, or simply wonder at the views from the panorama lounge as we look forward to the next port of call.
Accommodation in an Unspecified Outside Cabin incl. breakfast. Cabin number will be assigned aboard the ship.

Day 6: Cruise: Maloy – Torvik – Alesund – Molde – Kristiansund

A perfect start to your second day is an early arrival at the enchanting Art Nouveau town of Ålesund, which is situated across several islands at the entrance to Geirangerfjord. Opportunity to go ashore and explore this pretty town.

  • It strengthens breathing capacity and heart function
  • It relieves knees and back strain (unlike jogging)
  • It uses 80% of your body muscles
  • It expends twice the amount of calories than walking or jogging

June 2016
Overall rating: (5/5)

We arrived back in Australia 2 weeks ago after our 8 weeks abroard.
We had the most fabulous time in Norway and Iceland. Your detailed itinerary was invaluable. Every bus, train, plane and boat worked to schedule - not one hiccup!
Nordic walking with Elin in beautiful Bergen was a highlight of our 8 week adventure. Elin was delightful and worked cheerfully with the different abilities of the walkers in the group.
Thank you so much for organising this for us and for your attention to detail. It all ran like clockwork and we will enjoy many great photos and memories of our trip with Baltic Travel.
We are hoping to visit the Baltic States/capitals next year (with some walking ,hopefully) so we will be in touch.
Thank you again.
Sue and John
