Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival in Oslo

Arrival in Oslo. The Norwegian capital is beautifully situated at the head of the Oslo Fjord and surrounded by forested ridges. The arable fields, vast forests and untouched nature areas surrounding the city are only twenty minutes from the centre. They provide recreational opportunities that are frequently taken advantage of by the city’s inhabitants, as well as by visitors.
Accommodation at Comfort Hotel Grand Central or similar.

Day 2: Oslo - Myrdal - Flam (train)

Breakfast at the hotel. Morning departure from Oslo by train to Myrdal (the journey is about 5 hours long). In Myrdal, swap to the famous Flåm Railway that passes through wild and beautiful scenery with waterfalls and steep mountain sides. It descends from a height of 900 metres down to Flåm at a sidearm of the Sognefjord. There is no other adhesion railway in the world, running on normal tracks, that is so steep over such a long distance.
Accommodation at Fretheim Hotel or similar.

Day 3: Flam - Gudvangen - Voss - Bergen (boat/bus /train)

Breakfast at the hotel. Before continuing your tour, use the morning to discover Flåm and its surroundings. There are various hiking tours, or you can rent bikes or kayaks. In the afternoon, board the ferry that'll you over the Aurlandsfjord and Nærøyfjord to Gudvangen. The Nærøyfjord is the narrowest fjord channel in Europe, and has recently been added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List. From Gudvangen the journey continues by bus through Nærøyfjord Valley and pass the Stalheimskleiva, with its 13 steep hairpin bends. The last part of the excursion will be by train from Voss to Bergen, Norway’s second largest city and the world’s only city surrounded by 7 mountains and 7 fjords.
Accommodation at Comfort Hotel Holberg or similar.

Day 4: Bergen on your own

Breakfast at the hotel. This day is left for you to explore the city at your own leisure. Bergen is, with good reason, called the Gateway to the Fjords. The city is located on the west coast of Norway with close proximity to the famous Norwegian fjords. Sights of interest are the Hanseatic Bryggen Harbour, Fløibanen Funicular, Troldhaugen, the Fish and Flower market, Bergen Aquarium and Gamle Bergen (Old Bergen Open Air Museum).
Accommodation at Comfort Hotel Holdberg or similar.

Day 5: Departure from Bergen

Breakfast in the hotel. Departure from Bergen.

Dear Nikola,

We had a great time in Oslo, Flam and Bergen. Actually, we couldn't believe how quiet it was in Oslo. No loud people, no loud cars - it was lovely. We did a guided walk and took in the opera house, the library building and the castle fortifications. We also took the metro out to Holmenkollbakken. Fortunately the weather was clear and sunny when we went there and the views back down to Oslo were excellent.

Flam was great too, well notwithstanding our slightly longer than expected train journey! For some reason there were lots of funny little dogs on the train. It was like Crufts, but in Norway! Probably our one full day in Flam was enough for what was there. The museum was interesting though and gave an insight as to how the railway into Flam was constructed. We also loved the Aegir Bryggeri brewhouse and restaurant in Flam. I think that was the standout eating and drinking experience for all of us. I'm personally a big fan of interesting beers and ales and the ones there were easily the equal of any UK beers. In other places we ate at Olivia and Egon. They obviously seem to be franchises in Norway, but we couldn't fault them.

Bergen was an interesting contrast to both Oslo and Flam. It was definitely more bustling and lively. Excellent place to visit though and I think we all felt that we'd only just scratched the surface of the place. I guess we'll have to go back some time!

Anyway, thank you Nikola and to your colleagues for all your assistance in booking the trip for us. I think we all felt that you guys at Baltic are 'a safe pair of hands'.. well, several safe pairs to be accurate!

We look forward to traveling with you again.

Kind regards,

Paul and Lynn

Hi Nicola,

What a fabulous break! I can't tell you how much we enjoyed the trip, it was everything we wanted and more. And in particular, your little personal touches before and during: the birthday prosecco was an amazing surprise!

I think our highlight was the Naeroyfjord ferry trip - I'm not sure what we were expecting, but the electric powered catamaran was unique compared to traditional ferries. And the scenery was in a class of it's own. And it was so quiet and peaceful too, the only noise being the sound of ice crackling under the hull.

I'm hoping that we can revisit through you, maybe this time next year, perhaps to see the northern lights? My brother-in-law was so impressed, that he is already looking at your website.

Thank you once again and we'll speak soon.

Regards, Chris

Dear Laura,

Sorry it's taken me a while to reply. What a fantastic trip you provided for us!
Thank you for ensuring our dates & requirements were met prior to booking.
Everything went incredibly well. All the connections (train, bus, boat) were spot on. Peace of mind having seats pre-booked. Thank you.
The extra day in Oslo enabled us to take the ferry to see the Viking Museum & Folk Museum & I would recommend this extra day.
The hotel in Oslo was excellent for location & the breakfast was first class, our rooms were lovely.
The hotel in Flåm I would say was ok in terms of standard, perhaps a little tired. But again the breakfast was good & staff very friendly.
The hotel in Bergen was good too. Perhaps they could replicate the excellent breakfast provided at their sister hotel in Oslo? Again location was perfect. Staff excellent.
We were blessed with good weather & this ensured a really special holiday.
Thank you so much. I would definitely recommend your company to friends & family.

Kind regards. Judy

Dear Michael,

Glad to hear from you.
First of all, thank you for everything. We had a great time in our tour to Norway.
The location of the Hotel Thon in Oslo was fab. We had some rain but it was ok. We took the Hop on Hop off. We liked very much the Hotel as well.
The trip to Fläm was awasome. We enjoyed the trip even with the luggage and the changing of trains. It was not an issue at all. But we travelled light. This helped a lot.
The hotel in Fläm  was very good and the food was divine.
The Fjords were something else. Let me point that we got in the boat before the others because we were in that tour. It made a difference. Thanks again.
The bus to Voss was not so good as the others.  The train station there is under construction but ok. We managed it.
The train trip to Bergen was such a beauty that even being a long one we enjoyed it very much.
The hotel in Bergen was very good. To stay near the Station was great. We did some tours in Bergen as well. We liked very much the city.
Most important of everything was that we had everything already booked, very well explained in details so we could enjoy every step of the tour. That made the trip with our granddaughter a special one.
She told her Mom that was the best trip ever.
Thanks again for having everything booked etc, it was wonderful.

I do recommend very much this tour and Baltic Travel.

We had the time of our lives.
Grace, Roberto and Carolina

Hi Michael,

Thanks for getting in touch.

We have a really special time and came away just loving Norway – everybody has a smile and is so welcoming.

The organisation of the trip went really well and we appreciated the detail that you went into with our itinerary – it made everything really, really easy.   So a big thank you for that.

Kind regards

Ian

Hi Daina,

Yes we had a lovely time thank you .

The only negative feedback was the costs of eating out, it did not surprise us , but it was a large cost  consideration , which I know you have no control over .

The organisation and the itinery worked well with no problems experienced in connecting up,with the changes in transport - trains, buses, Ferries and flights .

We found that Voss did not have much to offer and would  have preferred to spend  Wednesday morning  in Flam, with  a shorter time in Voss.

Bergen was good with lots of museums and sites to visit.

All in all, a good holiday, we  would both prefer to revisit Iceland again  given the choice , mainly because of the cost of eating out..!

Hope this helps,

Best regards

Joe

Just returned from a wonderful Norway in a nutshell trip with my son. The pre trip service was excellent, all documents and maps arrived and the instructions and directions very easy to understand and follow. I cannot fault Daina for her help and patience with my questions, she deserves a gold medal! The trip itself was wonderful, the hotels chosen were very good and the locations excellent. Norway is a beautiful country and the Norwegians were so polite and kind. I am now saving up for another trip as soon as possible!

Thank you Daina and Baltic travel company.

Thank you for emailing! We had a great time in Norway and really enjoyed the trip. It was very well paced so we did a lot of fun and exciting things, but still had some time to relax too. I think we saw a great cross-section of Norway and would definitely recommend combining the Norway in a Nutshell and Northern Norway trips. I especially enjoyed the time above the Arctic Circle in Tromso.

All of the accommodation and tours were very nice. The only change I would suggest is that we ended up booking an extra night at the hotel in Tromso, since our last day there was the day of the kayaking, so we would have had to check out of the hotel at 9am, and then our cruise didn't leave until 1am the next morning. So we booked an extra day so that we could come back and shower after the kayaking and then also rest a bit before we got onto the cruise ship around midnight.

Thank you for all of your help!

Best wishes,
Megan

Transportation

Railway mostly serves domestic routes and is used as an easy and quick way to get from the capital to major cities of the country. There are some international routes, like to Moscow and St. Petersburg, but time spent on the way will be quite long.

Buses are one of the most convenient ways to travel between the Baltic States. Eurolines will get you between Riga, Vilnius and Tallinn. One way tickets will cost £ 15 - £ 20 and approximate travel time is 5 hours between the cities. Ticket reservations in advance are recommended.

Taxis are the quickest and most convenient way of travelling round the city. You'll find them located close to the main hotels. Usually it's quite easy to catch a taxi on the street, however, it's much better and safer to order one by phone. Taxi costs in all of the Baltic countries and Poland are approximately the same and a ride in the centre of the city will cost you approx £ 5 - £ 7.  Taxis in Finland and Russia are considerably more expensive.  It is always a good idea to get your hotel to book a taxi for you and ask approximately how much the trip will cost before you get in.

We would not recommend you to take public transportation within the city, as it's usually crowded and it may cause you unnecessary anxiety about where to stop.
