Lithuania is perhaps the least known of the Baltic triplets, but in spring it greets the sun and travellers with the same great welcome.
Just the largest of its Baltic neighbours, Lithuania is three times the size of Wales and has a population of nearly three million. Its capital, Vilnius, sits in the south-east of Lituania and is famous for the variety of architecture, from Gothic to Renaissance and on to Art Nouveau, in its old mediaeval town. Undoubtedly, a great place to start your exploration of this varied country.
Spring sees the green shoots of plants emerge after the cold winter and Lithuanians get their boats and walking boots out as they dive into their countryside. With over 2,800 lakes and 18 rivers longer than 100 kilometres, there is no shortage of great land to enjoy for walking, hiking, fishing and a range of country pursuits.
Kaunas is a lovely little city - only 300,000 people - to visit for its old town, Kaunas Castle and funiculars which wil transport the traveller up to great viewing points. Or go to the city of theatres, Panevezys, sitting on the banks of the River Nevezis and boasting the world's only travelling Puppet Wagon Theatre, which tours villages on a colourful horse-drawn cart in spring and summer, and the world's longest narrow gauge railway.
We know Lithuania and we will take you there.
