With Reykjavik, iceland's famous capital, just three hours away, a Weekend Break in this land of Vikings is a real possibility and a great way to taste the country that you will want to visit and savour again and again.
First some facts: Iceland sits in the North Atlantic; has a population of roughly 350,000 and is 80% of the size of England, making it the least densely populated country in Europe. People have lived here since the 9th century when, according to legend, a Norwegian sailor who couldn't be bothered to make the journey to North America, decided enough was enough and settled in Iceland - I may be stretching the legend a bit here.
The only member of NATO with no standing army, Iceland now thrives on tourism, fishing and technology. From being one of the poorest countries in the world, Iceland now ranks as the ninth most developed nation and is assessed as among the 10 greenest countries, with 85% of its energy needs supplied by hydro-electricity and geo-thermal sources.
With just over 120,000 people, Reykjavik is a great little big city and if you spend your first evening there, you may never move, but there is so much more than the great restaurants and clubs of this dazzling city.
For starters, there are the Northern Lights - Iceland is one of the best places to catch this free light show, laid on by Mother Nature. Travel out of the city and away from the bright lights and marvel at the Aurora Borealis dancing its colourful way through the night sky.
Then there are the geysers: there are roughly 30 of them including the daddy of them all called - what else - the Great Geysir, from the Icelandic word, geysa, meaning literally to gush. And gush it does: up to 70 metres in the air, with temperatures of over 120 degrees C in her run-offs.
And there are volcanoes, waterfalls, glaciers, black sands, white beaches, thermal springs; but don't take my word - go there!
We know Iceland and we will take you there for the weekend of your lifetime.
