Tour Itinerary:
DAY 1 (FRIDAY): ARRIVAL RIGA
Arrival in Riga, and transfer to Hotel Radisson Blu Ridzene***** or similar, check-in and welcome meeting.
DAY 2 (SATURDAY): RIGA
Founded in 1201 by the German bishop Albert, Riga is the largest of the three Baltic capitals and boasts a true kaleidoscope of various architectural styles. The walking tour of the Old Town includes Riga Castle, Dome Cathedral, St. Peter’s Church, Swedish Gates, Three Brothers, Large and Small Guild House and the Freedom Monument. The afternoon is reserved for an optional visit to Jurmala, the vibrant Latvian sea resort, famous for its wooden architecture and sandy beaches. In the evening enjoy an optional Latvian dinner at the stylish Restaurant La Boheme.
DAY 3 (SUNDAY): RIGA - DIKLI
From Riga we head north-eastwards to discover medieval Latvia. The tour takes us to the stunning scenery of the Gauja National Park and the town of Sigulda. We listen to the medieval Latvian legend of the Rose of Turaida and see the ruins of the Episcopal Castle and of the Castle of the Knights of the Sword. We continue to Cesis, a Hanseatic town with winding streets, castle ruins and beautiful gardens, and in late afternoon we check-in at Hotel Dikli Palace****, a Neo-Baroque estate from the 19th century.
DAY 4 (MONDAY): DIKLI
An optional morning excursion takes us to nearby Valmiera, another Hanseatic town founded in the 14th century, when the Livonian Order build a castle here. We make a short tour of the town and a visit the Valmiermuizas Brewery, the origins of which go back to the days of Swedes rule, when a castle inn was built not far from the Livonian castle. The excursion continues with a visit to local farm to taste the delicious organic cheese. This evening offers an optional BBQ dinner at Dikli Manor.
DAY 5 (TUESDAY): DIKLI – VIHULA
From Dikli Manor we continue to Estonia, to the university town of Tartu, where we admire the charming Old Town and visit the University founded in 1632. From there the tour goes through the rolling hills of northern Estonia and the medieval town of Rakvere before we reach Vihula in early afternoon and check-in at Hotel Vihula Manor Country Club & Spa**** - a charming 16th century estate located in the heart of the Lahemaa National Park.
DAY 6 (WEDNESDAY): VIHULA
During an optional half-day excursion of Lahemaa National Park we visit the ethnographical village of Altja, and Palmse Manor, the most impressive manor in Estonia and a memorial to the von Prahlen family. On the way back to Vihula we also see the Sagadi Manor, a restored 17th century manor with a beautiful manor house and delightful parks. The evening offers an optional candlelit dinner at the Wine Cellar at Vihula Manor.
DAY 7 (THURSDAY): VIHULA – TALLINN – HAIKKO
In the morning we leave Vihula Manor for Tallinn. The Estonian capital is a charming blend of medieval tranquillity and modern urban life. The medieval Old Town is a busy place in the summer with its many shops, galleries, souvenir markets, outdoor cafés and restaurants. The sightseeing tour takes us around the old medieval city walls and into the Old Town where we see Toompea Castle, Dome Church, Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, medieval Old Town Hall and Great Guild Hall. In the afternoon we embark on the ferry to Helsinki, from where the tour continues eastbound to Porvoo and we check-in in at Hotel Haikko Manor****, built in the beginning of the 20th century.
DAY 8 (FRIDAY): HAIKKO
The morning offers an optional excursion to Porvoo, Finland’s second oldest town, a beautiful city full of history. We stroll through the old town with its famous wooden church and red shore houses, painted red in the late 18th century in honor of King Gustav III of Sweden, who visited the city. The evening offers an optional Finnish dinner at Haikko Manor.
DAY 9 (SATURDAY): HAIKKO – HELSINKI
We leave Haikko Manor for Helsinki. The Finish capital is truly located at the crossroads of Western and Eastern culture and this is reflected everywhere in the green and lively city. The sightseeing tour takes us around the harbours and the Senate Square with the Lutheran Cathedral, up central Mannerheim Street and by the Parliament Building, the Finlandia Hall, and the Sibelius Monument and for a visit at the famous Church-in-the-Rock. We
check-in at the Hotel Glo Art**** or similar. The afternoon offers an optional excursion to Seurasaari Open-Air Museum, an oasis in the midst of the city with cottages, farmsteads and manors from all around Finland. The evening offers optional dinner cruise around the bay.
DAY 10 (SUNDAY): HELSINKI
Breakfast at the hotel. Check-out and transfer to Helsinki Airport in time for your return flight.
