Albania Holidays
Albania is truly one of Europe’s last hidden gems for tourists to visit, with its rich cultural history, traditional villages, ancient archaeological sites and breath-taking Riviera.
Before Albania holidays became part of the norm, a country situated in Southern Europe and bordered by Greece, Montenegro, Kosovo and Macedonia with a coast line of 265 miles on the Ionian and Adriatic sea; the country was completely isolated from the outside world during the communist rule of the Enver Hoxha regime until 1991.
Due to the country's isolation, Albania holidays make a traveller feel as though time has stopped while traveling through traditional countryside villages, where life still goes on the same way as decades ago. In the cities, especially the capital Tirana, the modern feel and vibrant atmosphere will surprise you and offer a complete contrast to the old village life.

Albania holidays have been on the rise the past few years, with people wanting to see the sights of a nation that is considered very low-key. Butrint National Park, an archeological site in South Albania, inhabited from prehistoric times through Greek and Roman occupation before blooming under Byzantine rule, was declared a monument in protection in 1948 during Enver Hoxha´s rule. The site was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site shortly after the fall of communism in 1992.
Albanians are very proud of their heritage, eager to share their history and exceptionally hospitable to visitors. As a result of the country´s application to join the European Union, infrastructure and roads have been updated to modern standards. Public security has also been dramatically improved and it is safe to travel throughout the country.
Other interesting UNESCO sites include the castle cities of Gjirokastre and Berat characterised by pebbled streets and unique architecture. Additionally, Albanian Iso-Polyphony has been credited as a "masterpiece of the oral heritage of humanity" and is currently protected by UNESCO.
