Attractions and Sightseeing in Klaipeda
Klaipeda is a city full of sightseeing opportunities and tourist attractions. The Clock Museum, the History Museum of Lithuania Minor, the Klaipeda Picture Gallery and the Marine Museum offer an interesting insight into the history and evolution of the region.
The city is known for the several small sculptures that can be found everywhere; in parks, crossroads, etc. Diminutive sculpture of animals, architecture, cultural symbols and the suchlike have been built all over the city and though these usually go unnoticed, they form an integral part of the culture and landscape of the city of Klaipeda.
The Anika Square region is an imperative place for the tourists to visit. The square has a balcony overlooking the crowd where Adolph Hitler once gave a speech. According to legend, the statue on the square was not facing the balcony and had its back towards Hitler, and this annoyed him so much that he ordered the statue to be removed. The statue has been rebuilt and reinstalled since then.
The Curonian Spit, a major tourist attraction known for encompassing the highest drifting sand dunes in all of Europe, can be reached via a 10 minute boat ride leaving from the Old ferry terminal.
One can also spend time at the beaches in Klaipeda. The sandy beach at Smiltyne is very popular with tourists and locals alike. One can also visit the Giruliai beach and Melnrage beach in the summer season to make the most of the sunny skies, warm sand and sparkling water.

The climate of Klaipeda is influenced by the presence of the Baltic Sea. The summer season is bright and warm, with July and August being the warmest months. The rainy season lasts from August to November with the maximum rainfall occurring in November. Autumn is a cold time and winter can be harsh. Autumn and winter are usually windy and there are several storms and gales. Snowfall can occur from October to April depending upon the particular climate of the year. The weather is generally unpredictable and can change drastically.
The ideal time to visit the city would be during the summer and the early winter seasons. The atmosphere is lively and pleasant during these months. The streets and markets are full of activity and the shopping season is at its peak during this time.
