What Are Iceland's Top Attractions?

No trips to Iceland are complete without visiting Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, mirroring the surrounding volcanic country side. The most northern capital in the world has nature lying right on its doorstep. Reykjavik gives you the chance to bathe yourself not only in the Northern Lights and the many geothermal pools, but also in the brilliant music and arts scene, not to mention the notorious night life! Trips to Iceland, to this truly modern city providing great food, amazing scenery, museums and shopping facilities have become ever growing in popularity with more packages becoming available by the day.

When arranging your Iceland holidays, be sure to ride down the surrounding ski slopes, visit the immense concrete wonder that is Hallgrimskirkja and enjoy the unmissable and panoramic view of the city from its 73-metre-high church tower. Be part of history in the beautiful wooden Hofdi House, and stand in the space where Reagan and Gorbachev in effect ended the Cold War. A visit to the Saga Museum in Reykjavik, will provide you with insight in Viking history and the Icelandic Sagas, one of which is said to have inspired J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Lord of The Rings.

Enjoy a concert in the impressive Harpa Concert and Conference Centre or take a 40 minute drive out of the city and submerge yourself in the mineral rich, thermal waters of the famous Blue Lagoon, as popular for Summer Holidays to Iceland as for Iceland winter holidays.

Leave the city behind and travel further into Iceland's dramatic landscape, and see for yourself how the ancient battle between ice and fire still continues to this day, through the immense power outlets of raging water falls, gurgling whirlpools, active volcanoes and geysers ejecting their jet-like eruptions of hot water metres into the air.

What To Do in Iceland?

Iceland has been voted one of the top 10 destinations worldwide for whale watching, but if you prefer to go deep, you can experience some of the best and most challenging dives around, as you swim, snorkel or dive through waters of amazing visibility around the only geothermal underwater chimneys in the world, another popular activity among those arranging trips to Iceland. Want to stay dry? Try your hand at ice climbing, arctic rafting on the Hvita river or take a snowmobile across the Langjokull Glacier.

At Thingvellir National Park in Iceland, you can watch the Gullfoss waterfall tumble 32 metres down or walk between the American and European tectonic plates at this Unesco heritage site, the place of Iceland's first National Assembly dating back to 930 AD.

When selecting from our range of Iceland holiday packages, be sure to consider experiencing the crevasse-riddled outlet glacier of Solheimajokull and enjoy this magnificent frozen wonder with its ice formations and sink holes. Hike through Laugavegurinn amid endless hours of summer daylight and even more breathtaking scenery.

During your trips to Iceland, ensure you also visit Europe's largest National Park, Vatnajokull, and its blue iced glacier, gurgling whirlpools and cascading waterfalls. For the adventurous individuals, we can highly recommend a caving trek in lava caves and craters.

An honourable mention must however go to the four legged part of this remarkable nation, the Icelandic horse. This sure-footed, much admired and immensely strong little horse cannot only carry a very heavy burden, but is an integral part of Icelandic society and history. It is a living national treasure, loved and respected by all. They are anybody's to ride and have a special gait that makes it almost impossible for anyone not to enjoy the ride. So if you want a truly authentic way of seeing this country, let this intelligent, people loving, little horse lead you on a highly recommended adventure.

Hi Laura,

We had an amazing time, everything ran like clockwork and we saw and did some amazing things – highlights; volcano erupting while we were there and seeing it, my husband loved the hike and the scenery there including the hot springs, I enjoyed the white water rafting as did my son, horse riding was also a highlight (not great surroundings for that – near the road and industrial units etc. but the people and ponies were great), Snowmobiling was OK but I think the scheduled ATV riding on the volcano would have been better, it was a bit formulaic with little excitement, the golden circle tour was fab, the glacier hike was great with the ice climbing, sky lagoon was lovely too – all in all great all round, shame we missed the whale watching and quad biking and suggest a place with better surroundings for the horse riding, also the itinerary was fantastic and so helpful to use with times, pickups, durations etc. but it doesn’t actually say where you are going which would be a good addition.

Hello Daina,

We are finally getting back to you with feedback on our Iceland trip. We had extended our vacation into time spent in Portugal because why not have two distinctive weather changes?

For both of us, the highlight was the Sky Lagoon. We were very happy with the change of venue for many reasons. While there, Blue Lagoon was only open for one day with the volcanic activity. When researching the two lagoons after you put forth the venue change, we found the minimum age at Sky is 12 yrs as opposed to 2 years at Blue. We call that a win. Including the 7 step ritual was wonderful. When they say a cold bath, they mean COLD! It was a really good relaxing time. We did bring flip-flop sandals for the spa but they are not necessary. If anyone asks, the only reason to bring them is if you are person who prefers shower shoes when in public locker rooms. The individual changing/shower spaces that go with the Sky pass are worth it. They even provide a hair dryer in each place if needed. They also have locked personal lockers for your possessions.

The main draw back to the two trips, Golden Circle and South Shore trip was the time spent on the buses. Dave did not go on the south shore trip as it was 10 hours as opposed to the Golden Circle 7 hour bus time the previous day. The wind was brutal (it is Iceland after all) so each stop had more time spent inside each restaurant and gift shops then actually enjoying the reason we traveled so far. The views were amazing and can't be duplicated. The South shore trip starts with the first stop 1 hour and 45 minutes out just for a bathroom break. Then it is another 45 minutes to the first waterfall which did not have bathroom facilities. Each stop is so unique and amazing though. After the final stop on South shore, it is a 2 hour drive back to Reykjavik.

The tour guides are very knowledgeable and gave us the unique stories and info we love to absorb on these trips.

We ended up being glad we did decide to cancel the final chance for the northern lights for our other plans. Talking with others on the way to the airport who did go, they said it was a bust. So we took that part as a not meant to be. It is nature, you can't schedule it.

The Foss Baron was as we expected. We don't need 4 star places. The only draw back we had was the bed was so hard, we honestly felt like we were sleeping on the box springs. The breakfast was more than we expected though, so that was a nice start for the day.

We loved the purity of the drinking water. We are rural America and have our own well, so we greatly appreciate other places with great tap water.

Thanks again for all your help before as well as during the trip.

Dave & Beth

Hi Inga

Very good trip, we were very lucky with the weather except the freak storm that blew us off the road, and in retrospect that was a bit of an added bonus. Stefan the guide was very good; he is a trained bass opera singer too and sang happy birthday to me! I saw the aurora 3 times; not great each time but better than nothing. I've added a few pics.

Hi Julija,

Thanks for your email, everything went very well on the trip.

The package we received was very detailed and made travelling around very simple.

The accommodation was exceptional at each location, I have included a few photos (out of 100’s taken!) that may be of interest

Thanks for arranging everything and I’ll be recommending you to friends who are interested in travelling to Iceland.

Regards,

Graham

We would like to thank you for the card and bottle of prosecco on our arrival. It was a lovely surprise for Steve, and the hotel gave a complementary cocktail as well. The hotel was very good brilliantly postioned for activities and sightseeing. The trips were amazing we loved them. It gave us a good insight into Iceland.

Flights with Easyjet were good and pickups well organised.

Thank you for your care and help in the arrangements.

best wishes
