Baltic Travel Company organises a wide range of holidays to Northern Europe that come with financial protection and flights included that would suit any budget while meeting your travel plans and budget, whether you want to see the Norwegian capital or external sites and famous fjords.

The cost depends on the destination you would like to visit, the length of your stay and the season. A city break in Oslo for 4 days can start from £550 per person, but if you would like to go on an escorted holiday to the Scandinavian Capitals & Norwegian Fjords for 14 days, then the cost can be as high as £6,295 per person.

How Many Days to Go on a Trip to Norway

If you wish to go on a brief city break, then minimum 3 nights would suit you well, especially if you would like to visit the country's capital. You will have plenty of time to stop by the main tourist attractions, such as the National Theatre, Oslo Opera House or the Viking Ship Museum.

However, if you would like to see the incredible natural features and dramatic landscapes that Norway is famous for, then a minimum 5 days stay will allow you to sightsee much more. You will then have the time to discover Norways' rugged peaks and take advantage of the hiking opportunities that raw nature offers.

How to Tour Norway

The best way to tour Norway would be by train, since train travel is most effective, as it is both faster and less expensive compared to bus services.

The Flåmsbana Railway was deemed to be the greatest train ride in the World. This 20km adventure is about climbing mountains past deep ravines and along tall waterfalls to enjoy an unmatched experience. A train trip will allow you explore dramatic scenery without feeling too adventurous if you are not an outdoor person, so it is suitable for everybody.

What is There to Do in Norway

Choose one of our Norway cruises and explore the deep, clear waters of the majestic fjords or enjoy a Norway fly-drive holiday winding through spectacular mountain passes, featuring some of Europe's most dramatic waterfalls and glaciers. Or pick one of our Norway trips packages to go back in time visiting medieval churches and old wooden towns or hike cabin-to-cabin through some of the best hiking trails in the world. These trips offer the best experience during summer months for both locals and international tourists.

You can play golf under the midnight sun, ski down some of the best pistes in Europe or watch the Northern Lights in Norway draw their luminous curtains across the clear night skies and end the day sleeping on reindeer skins in a hotel made of ice.

Because of the vast coastline, seafood is an important component of Norwegian cuisine that you must experience on a trip to Norway. From fresh salmon to dried cod, it makes sense to try one of the many seafood meals that are offered on your trip. Norwegian lambs have been a large part of the meals menu and the grilled meat is delicate and succulent despite the unspoiled habitats and rich vegetation where the grazing sheep live. Their slow-cured lamb legs that have a long history dated to the time when the meat was cooked with fresh mountain air for long winters. Norway aims to achieve sustainable animal feed production and therefore offers some unusual dishes, like smalahove which includes sheep heads and salves.

Norwegian is very family-friendly in many ways, even if you don't speak their official language. With plenty of farm, theme parks & day excursions for everybody, we have something suitable for every holiday and every season. Some cities can be easily reached by walking and offer relaxation and stress-free excursions to museums and attractions.

There are also beaches and waterways, science centres and snowy activities that offer excitement, education and fun for a really invigorating holiday. It's no surprise Norway has some amazing outdoor activities. Mountains extend across all country and there are plenty of great places to go hiking, and practice sports all year long.

When is the Best time to visit Norway

In Norway springs and summers there are plenty of outdoor festivals that make it worthwhile visiting if it is what you are after. Nevertheless, Norway is fascinating on all seasons. During winter time, especially from October to March you get witness the Northern Lights, as the sky is getting a little darker at night creating the perfect atmosphere for you to enjoy such a distinctive natural phenomenon.

A trip to the north during summer allows you enjoy the midnight sun, another fascinating natural phenomenon when the sun never sets. In the northwestern part of the Arctic Circle the winter months are never entirely dark, giving Norwegian the nickname of ‘The Land of the Midnight Moon ’. July and July are the best months to visit Norway with the warmest time of year when you get to experience the famous night sun that creates the ideal environment for hiking, cycling, and kayaking at any time of the day or night.

In the winter, the spectacular landscape of Norway is mostly covered under a blanket of ice and snow. This is a special time for those who enjoy winter sports like downhill and cross country skiing, snow shoeing, snowmobiling, dog sledding and ice skating.

I want to say a big thank you for your impeccable organisation of our Norway trip. From our first contact with you to arriving back in London, all the arrangements went like clockwork. The hotels you chose for us were excellent with comfortable rooms, charming staff and great locations. The Clarion in Tromso is delightful, and they certainly look after guests in a very special way, especially the waffles in the afternoon!  In Bergen, the Bristol was great too, and being just two minutes from the airport bus stop, five minutes from the waterfront and a very easy walk to the railway station, the location was perfect.

Our cabin in Svolvaer was really cosy with gorgeous views over the water. We expected a one bedroom cabin, but we had two, so plenty of space to make ourselves at home.

Hurtigruten was a good experience too and we were extremely lucky to reach Trollfjord just as the sun was setting.  It was one of the most beautiful sights I've ever seen.

And of course a very special thank you for checking out the availability of vegetarian food at Borsen Spiseri on our second Lofoten night and for arranging for us to eat there.  When we checked in, we booked a table for that night too, as we didn't feel like walking back over the bridge to look for an alternative.  What a beautiful restaurant it is, with its old wood, candlelight, delightful staff and delicious food. They cooked me two excellent veggie dinners.

Lofoten Lights was a great choice for our tours.  Claudia and Maurizio are a charming couple, so friendly and very knowledgeable about their adopted home.  They took us to a perfect vantage point for the Aurora, which started just as we got out of the car, lasted for over an hour, and was still on the go when we got back to Svolvaer, so they stopped to take even more photographs, which I now have - I've attached a couple for you to see.  They were just as delighted as we were to see such a wonderful Aurora.

In addition to the holiday you booked for us, we also went on a Fjord boat trip from Tromso, to the concert in the Arctic Cathedral, and we took the Norway in a Nutshell tour from Bergen.  We visited the Polar Museum in Tromso, the Second World War Museum in Lofoten and the Hanseatic Museum in Bergen - all were extremely interesting and gave us a good insight into Norway's history. Despite packing all those things in, it still felt a relaxing trip, and what made everything so easy was that you had prepared us a great itinerary and taken care of so many details that many travel companies do not. All we had to do was enjoy ourselves.

Most special moments: for me, the sunset over Trollfjord; for Andy, the Northern Lights.

As for the future, I'm sure we'll be booking with you again and I'm already recommending you to friends!

Irene

Hi Michael

We had the best time! I would even go so far as to say it’s the best holiday we’ve ever had.

Tromsø was amazing, such a beautiful place, especially when knee deep in snow. The locals were so friendly. The northern lights chase was fantastic. Our host Trine was great and made everyone feel at ease. Even if we hadn’t seen the Northern lights she would have made it a special trip...teaching us about the lights and Norway and it’s history. It was really interesting. She was also great with our sons which was nice especially as they were the only children on the trip. And we did see the northern lights which was the whole reason for the trip so we were beyond happy!

The dog sledding trip was great but soooo cold (-25). The staff were great & it was an unbelievable experience. The scenery was breathtaking.

Stockholm was also beautiful and dusted with wet snow. Perfect for snowballs, so my boys were very happy. The hotel here was lovely. Both hotel breakfasts were the best we’ve experienced, so much choice and interesting new foods to try.
We were also very impressed with you & your company. The itinerary & advice you provided were very helpful indeed.
So in summary we had a fantastic once in a lifetime holiday, the only problem is we want to go back soon! Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket?!
Thanks so much for all of your help.
Rebecca & family

Norway is beautiful and definitely a big part of my heart. Such a lovely people, gorgeous places and a very relaxing atmosphere. The hotel was fabulous too. It's a shame that we couldn't stay longer.
I'll attach a few pictures for you.

Will keep in touch because I would like you to arrange our next adventure. ??
Many thanks
Kind regards
Barbara
PS. On the Northern light chase we met some other couples who travelled through your company and they were really impressed too.

Hi Julija

Sorry I haven’t replied before. We had a very good trip and saw so many places. The trip to the glacier was amazing.

I think our favourite place was Ulvik, however we were disappointed that although the hotels were very comfortable we got very little chance to enjoy their facilities eg the hotel in Gerainger was superb, but we arrived late and just had time for dinner and a walk. We had to leave by 8am the following day. Other members of the group were of the same opinion.

Our guide Anne was lovely and had so much knowledge and the driver Johan was extremely professional, they had wonderful senses of humour. The only non professional person was the guide at Bergen ...Mr Collier who obviously had a dislike of British people (he was British himself) We found him very rude and had no patience with the the slower members of the group. We avoided him!

We were blessed with brilliant weather.

Kind regards

Joan and Steve

Dear Daina

Thank you for enquiring. We have had such a lovely holiday and enjoyed it all and of course the weather has been perfect for us.

Hotels all good except may be the last hotel in Bergan -the Scandic Ornen. Looking on to a car park at eye level and a window which did not open but great location.

All other experiences went well and tours with plenty of time for our own time and we were very lucky with the size of our group. We found it interesting that people came and went at different times and places but it works well.

Favourite hotel and situation was the Kviknes hotel in Balestrad.
