The cost depends on the destination you would like to visit, the length of your stay and the season. How Many Days to Go on a Trip to Norway

If you wish to go on a brief city break, then minimum 3 nights would suit you well, especially if you would like to visit the country's capital. You will have plenty of time to stop by the main tourist attractions, such as the National Theatre, Oslo Opera House or the Viking Ship Museum.

However, if you would like to see the incredible natural features and dramatic landscapes that Norway is famous for, then a minimum 5 days stay will allow you to sightsee much more. How to Tour Norway

The best way to tour Norway would be by train, since train travel is most effective, as it is both faster and less expensive compared to bus services.

The Flåmsbana Railway was deemed to be the greatest train ride in the World. This 20km adventure is about climbing mountains past deep ravines and along tall waterfalls to enjoy an unmatched experience. A train trip will allow you explore dramatic scenery without feeling too adventurous if you are not an outdoor person, so it is suitable for everybody.

What is There to Do in Norway

Choose one of our Norway cruises and explore the deep, clear waters of the majestic fjords or enjoy a Norway fly-drive holiday winding through spectacular mountain passes, featuring some of Europe's most dramatic waterfalls and glaciers. Or pick one of our Norway trips packages to go back in time visiting medieval churches and old wooden towns or hike cabin-to-cabin through some of the best hiking trails in the world. These trips offer the best experience during summer months for both locals and international tourists.

You can play golf under the midnight sun, ski down some of the best pistes in Europe or watch the Northern Lights in Norway draw their luminous curtains across the clear night skies and end the day sleeping on reindeer skins in a hotel made of ice.

Because of the vast coastline, seafood is an important component of Norwegian cuisine that you must experience on a trip to Norway. From fresh salmon to dried cod, it makes sense to try one of the many seafood meals that are offered on your trip. Norwegian lambs have been a large part of the meals menu and the grilled meat is delicate and succulent despite the unspoiled habitats and rich vegetation where the grazing sheep live. Their slow-cured lamb legs that have a long history dated to the time when the meat was cooked with fresh mountain air for long winters. Norway aims to achieve sustainable animal feed production and therefore offers some unusual dishes, like smalahove which includes sheep heads and salves.

Norwegian is very family-friendly in many ways, even if you don't speak their official language. With plenty of farm, theme parks & day excursions for everybody, we have something suitable for every holiday and every season. Some cities can be easily reached by walking and offer relaxation and stress-free excursions to museums and attractions.

There are also beaches and waterways, science centres and snowy activities that offer excitement, education and fun for a really invigorating holiday. It's no surprise Norway has some amazing outdoor activities. Mountains extend across all country and there are plenty of great places to go hiking, and practice sports all year long.

When is the Best time to visit Norway

In Norway springs and summers there are plenty of outdoor festivals that make it worthwhile visiting if it is what you are after. Nevertheless, Norway is fascinating on all seasons. During winter time, especially from October to March you get witness the Northern Lights, as the sky is getting a little darker at night creating the perfect atmosphere for you to enjoy such a distinctive natural phenomenon.

A trip to the north during summer allows you enjoy the midnight sun, another fascinating natural phenomenon when the sun never sets. In the northwestern part of the Arctic Circle the winter months are never entirely dark, giving Norwegian the nickname of ‘The Land of the Midnight Moon ’. July and July are the best months to visit Norway with the warmest time of year when you get to experience the famous night sun that creates the ideal environment for hiking, cycling, and kayaking at any time of the day or night.

In the winter, the spectacular landscape of Norway is mostly covered under a blanket of ice and snow. This is a special time for those who enjoy winter sports like downhill and cross country skiing, snow shoeing, snowmobiling, dog sledding and ice skating.

***Tailored and extended North Norway Fly-Drive***

Hi Laura

Yes we had a fantastic trip made all the easier by your excellent organisation and local knowledge. This enabled us to make the most of our trip. It was a good time of year to go although we did have our fair share of rain but when the sun came out it was glorious and surprisingly warm.

The schedule was about right enabling us time to enjoy each of the locations without feeling the pressure to move on.

We loved Bodo, Reine, Solvjear and Tromso. Less so Rost and Narvik. The hotel in Rost was fine and the people on the island very friendly but three full days was one day too long as it is very flat! I would guess that the bird life in spring will be spectacular.

We were only one full day in Narvik ( we went so that we could enjoy the train trip up the Fjord but this only runs on Saturdays in September). However we enjoyed some good walks on that day and learnt a little about its history. The hotel in Narvik was below par and I would not recommend it. Also Narvik was recommended by friends who had visited on a cruise. Therefore they had not done any land journeys up the fjord whereas because we were driving everywhere did not need to travel up another fjord so we didn’t miss much. At this time of year we particularly enjoyed the driving up the Lofoten peninsular where we had to stop may times just to take in the views and scenery.

One point to note when driving is that there are very few cafes or coffee stops between towns which are of course quite far apart from each other.

Accommodation in the Rorbuer huts was excellent although Elysian in Hamnoy were a little crammed with no views from the hut (and no oven or grill!) The one in Solvjear was first class and an original (hobbit) hut!

Highlights for us was the fish eagle trip to Troll Fjord (photos attached). Reine and Tromso which has a lot of interest and plenty of locations to drive to and walks within the city and beyond.

All in all a great trip and well organised from your part giving us the freedom to do whatever we liked.

We will go again.

Kind regards, Philip

Hi Nikola

We had an absolutely wonderful trip thank you, all down to your meticulous planning! The sights were amazing and the excursions fabulous. Everything went as smoothly as it possibly could and we were lucky with the weather- only one day of rain, the day we were all togged up for the sea eagles trip, so it didn't really matter.

Such a beautiful part of the world and the midsummer sun is quite a phenomenon.

A few photos attached.

I hope to use the Baltic Travel company again and will definitely recommend you to family and friends.

Many thanks again

Anne

Hi Daina

I was going to email you to thank you for putting together a fantastic itinerary which flowed like clockwork. The timings and maps and instructions were spot on and made life so easy. I had every confidence in your planning after our trip to Finland in January.

I have so many photos, many of which do not do the colours and atmosphere justice.

Bergen was lovely and a perfect place to finish off at with a wonderful fish meal. We took the funicular up to the view point and walked down. Sogndal had a lovely outside bar area around the hotel and the ice hike was just so awesome inspiring with a sherpa who had scaled everest 7 times.

Flam was my favourite, the train ride with magical music at a waterfall stop, the bike ride down the mountain, a floating sauna pontoon and I swan in the fjord. The viking pub and hotel were exactly what I joped they'd be. The fjord boat trip to gudvangen was stunning.

The trip to voss stopped at the highest viewpoint.

Arrival in voss was in rain but what a view across the lake from the balcony !!

The white water rafting was AMAZING loved it.

Sadly our flight home was delayed but thankfully that didn't spoil any of our holiday.

Thank you for the whole experience

Mandy

Afer searching for holidays in Norway, we couldn't find exactly what we were looking for, somewhere away from the usual tourist and cruise ship 'hotspots'. That is, until we found the Baltic Travel Company. We were spoilt for choice, and eventually decided upon the North Norway Fly Drive package. We were not disappointed; it was excellent in every respect. Many thanks to Nikola for answering my numerous questions and looking at various dates before we finally booked. The travel plan was a little complicated as we had to incorporate a number of ferries and internal/international flights, but everything worked perfectly. I have no hesitation in recommending Baltic Travel; after only being back a few days we are already poring over their website planning our next trip!

Hi Daina,

We had an absolutely fabulous time in Norway once again. The scenery was just out-of-this-world throughout the trip and neither of us had ever seen anything quite like it. We first saw the Lofoten mountains from the Bodo-Moskenes ferry and it took my breath away.

The accommodation on the pier of Mortsund was fabulous, a real highlight. As we drove Northwards, we heeded the warning that the 08:45 ferry from Andenes would be busy - we got there at 06:45 and only just squeezed on at the end. Many people leave their cars in the queue overnight to ensure they get a spot. We loved staying in Senjahopen, brilliant place to walk and we saw a sea eagle too. Onwards to Alta and the North cape, brilliant, and Honningsvaig was a lovely place to stay. We had some trouble with the hire car but it was sorted by a local mechanic late on the Sunday afternoon - very impressive! The cruise from Hammerfest to Tromso was magic, the views were incredible throughout.

We loved the more remote locations on the holiday and it confirmed that we really don't like cities. We were not impressed with the Thon hotel in Narvik or in Tromso but they are just minor concerns. We were blessed with mostly good weather throughout!

We are both missing the place already and I am hoping to get back one day to climb many of the insanely beautiful hills we enjoyed seeing from ground level!

 Thanks for this wonderful experience.

Don and Jen
