Baltic Travel Company organises a wide range of holidays to Northern Europe that come with financial protection and flights included that would suit any budget while meeting your travel plans and budget, whether you want to see the Norwegian capital or external sites and famous fjords.

The cost depends on the destination you would like to visit, the length of your stay and the season. A city break in Oslo for 4 days can start from £550 per person, but if you would like to go on an escorted holiday to the Scandinavian Capitals & Norwegian Fjords for 14 days, then the cost can be as high as £6,295 per person.

How Many Days to Go on a Trip to Norway

If you wish to go on a brief city break, then minimum 3 nights would suit you well, especially if you would like to visit the country's capital. You will have plenty of time to stop by the main tourist attractions, such as the National Theatre, Oslo Opera House or the Viking Ship Museum.

However, if you would like to see the incredible natural features and dramatic landscapes that Norway is famous for, then a minimum 5 days stay will allow you to sightsee much more. You will then have the time to discover Norways' rugged peaks and take advantage of the hiking opportunities that raw nature offers.

How Long Is the Norway in a Nutshell Tour

Baltic Travel Company's holiday package Norway in a Nutshell Tour takes 5 days / 4 nights during which you will see the most beautiful scenery in Fjord Norway, and visit Oslo and Bergen. This is one of the most popular holiday packages to Norway.

How to Tour Norway

The best way to tour Norway would be by train, since train travel is most effective, as it is both faster and less expensive compared to bus services.

The Flåmsbana Railway was deemed to be the greatest train ride in the World. This 20km adventure is about climbing mountains past deep ravines and along tall waterfalls to enjoy an unmatched experience. A train trip will allow you explore dramatic scenery without feeling too adventurous if you are not an outdoor person, so it is suitable for everybody.

What is There to Do in Norway

Choose one of our Norway cruises and explore the deep, clear waters of the majestic fjords or enjoy a Norway fly-drive holiday winding through spectacular mountain passes, featuring some of Europe's most dramatic waterfalls and glaciers. Or pick one of our Norway trips packages to go back in time visiting medieval churches and old wooden towns or hike cabin-to-cabin through some of the best hiking trails in the world. These trips offer the best experience during summer months for both locals and international tourists.

You can play golf under the midnight sun, ski down some of the best pistes in Europe or watch the Northern Lights in Norway draw their luminous curtains across the clear night skies and end the day sleeping on reindeer skins in a hotel made of ice.

Because of the vast coastline, seafood is an important component of Norwegian cuisine that you must experience on a trip to Norway. From fresh salmon to dried cod, it makes sense to try one of the many seafood meals that are offered on your trip. Norwegian lambs have been a large part of the meals menu and the grilled meat is delicate and succulent despite the unspoiled habitats and rich vegetation where the grazing sheep live. Their slow-cured lamb legs that have a long history dated to the time when the meat was cooked with fresh mountain air for long winters. Norway aims to achieve sustainable animal feed production and therefore offers some unusual dishes, like smalahove which includes sheep heads and salves.

Norwegian is very family-friendly in many ways, even if you don't speak their official language. With plenty of farm, theme parks & day excursions for everybody, we have something suitable for every holiday and every season. Some cities can be easily reached by walking and offer relaxation and stress-free excursions to museums and attractions.

There are also beaches and waterways, science centres and snowy activities that offer excitement, education and fun for a really invigorating holiday. It's no surprise Norway has some amazing outdoor activities. Mountains extend across all country and there are plenty of great places to go hiking, and practice sports all year long.

When is the Best time to visit Norway

In Norway springs and summers there are plenty of outdoor festivals that make it worthwhile visiting if it is what you are after. Nevertheless, Norway is fascinating on all seasons. During winter time, especially from October to March you get witness the Northern Lights, as the sky is getting a little darker at night creating the perfect atmosphere for you to enjoy such a distinctive natural phenomenon.

A trip to the north during summer allows you enjoy the midnight sun, another fascinating natural phenomenon when the sun never sets. In the northwestern part of the Arctic Circle the winter months are never entirely dark, giving Norwegian the nickname of ‘The Land of the Midnight Moon ’. July and July are the best months to visit Norway with the warmest time of year when you get to experience the famous night sun that creates the ideal environment for hiking, cycling, and kayaking at any time of the day or night.

In the winter, the spectacular landscape of Norway is mostly covered under a blanket of ice and snow. This is a special time for those who enjoy winter sports like downhill and cross country skiing, snow shoeing, snowmobiling, dog sledding and ice skating.

Dear Nikola,

We had a great time in Oslo, Flam and Bergen. Actually, we couldn't believe how quiet it was in Oslo. No loud people, no loud cars - it was lovely. We did a guided walk and took in the opera house, the library building and the castle fortifications. We also took the metro out to Holmenkollbakken. Fortunately the weather was clear and sunny when we went there and the views back down to Oslo were excellent.

Flam was great too, well notwithstanding our slightly longer than expected train journey! For some reason there were lots of funny little dogs on the train. It was like Crufts, but in Norway! Probably our one full day in Flam was enough for what was there. The museum was interesting though and gave an insight as to how the railway into Flam was constructed. We also loved the Aegir Bryggeri brewhouse and restaurant in Flam. I think that was the standout eating and drinking experience for all of us. I'm personally a big fan of interesting beers and ales and the ones there were easily the equal of any UK beers. In other places we ate at Olivia and Egon. They obviously seem to be franchises in Norway, but we couldn't fault them.

Bergen was an interesting contrast to both Oslo and Flam. It was definitely more bustling and lively. Excellent place to visit though and I think we all felt that we'd only just scratched the surface of the place. I guess we'll have to go back some time!

Anyway, thank you Nikola and to your colleagues for all your assistance in booking the trip for us. I think we all felt that you guys at Baltic are 'a safe pair of hands'.. well, several safe pairs to be accurate!

We look forward to traveling with you again.

Kind regards,

Paul and Lynn

Hi Inga,

Nice to hear from you! We had a fabulous time thank you, and everything worked perfectly so thanks very much for putting together a well-planned schedule. On reflection we would have probably liked to have spent an extra day in Oslo as there’s so much to see, but we were time restricted on this occasion so we will just have to return to the city some day.

Dogsledding and snowmobiling were great experiences, especially the snowmobiling where we were the only guests and our guide Knut took us far put into the wilderness. The crab fishing experience was a little disappointing though, as the crabs don’t actually come into the fjord (water is too warm) so they are fished from deeper waters, placed into pots in the fjord then “fished” out for tourists. So that was a bit silly really, but the crab itself was delicious ??. Whilst in Kirkenes, I walked up to the museum which is a really interesting place, full of stories and artefacts about the area, the Sami culture, border disputes etc and there is even a Russian Sturmovik aircraft on display which is a rare sight and a real treat.

The snow hotel was amazing, and we also went for a snowshoe trek up into the hills at night. Unfortunately no aurora this time, so we will return for sure to try again.

Thanks again, we had a lovely adventure!

Mel

Hi Nikola

The holiday went perfectly. I can't thank you enough. It's the first holiday in 20 years that has gone smoothly for me, so it is something of an achievement. We did see the Northern Lights and got some lovely photographs. We were driven into Finland to find them as Tromsø was cloudy, but we did catch a glimpse of them over our hotel the day before, just after we arrived. The other highlight was the Fjellheisen cable car. Beautiful views and lovely snow. The hotel was lovely and the staff were too. We chose the Aurora for the rooftop jacuzzi which was lovely too. The complimentary food was so much more than I expected and saved so much time in what was a very busy long weekend.

I will definitely recommend Baltic Travel Company to family and friends.

Thank you again

Gill

Good morning, Inga

We want to thank you for planning such a fantastic holiday.

All the transport, whether it was plane, boat or bus went smoothly.

The hotels were fantastic. Friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable rooms and delicious breakfasts.

Our excursion to Camp Tamok, was amazing. We had so much fun and again all the staff were friendly and took great care if us. The two activites (snowmobiling and dog sledding) were so exhilarating.

The Ferry trip to Lofoton, was relaxing, stunning views and informative.

Lofton is beautiful. The sea rib adventure was fantastic and we saw so many sea eagles.

The photography trip round the islands was a great day. Our driver Lena, was charming, full of great info, fun and made it a very memorable experience.

We also had an amazing night watching the Northern Lights, just to complete an outstanding holiday.

I know you didn't have control over the weather, but we had plenty of snow and some beautiful sunny, clear days to be able to fully appreciate the wonders if Norway.

So thank you and your team for making it all possible.

Thanks Ruth, Michael, George & Tina
