SEASON
Departure
1 Jun - 31 Aug
London / Manchetser / Edinburgh

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival in Oslo

Arrive in Oslo, the capital of Norway. Transfer to your hotel. Oslo is situated at the end of the Oslo fjord and is the largest city in Norway, and famous for being in-touch with nature, something experienced in few other cities. The afternoon is at your own disposal. Walk through Karl Johans gate, leading to the Royal Palace and a walk through Aker Brygge, the beautiful harbour area with lots of shops and restaurants. A visit to the National Art Gallery is also recommended.

Accommodation at a 3* hotel or similar.

Day 2: Oslo – Balestrand (train/boat)

Breakfast at the hotel. Morning departure by train from Oslo to Myrdal, part of the Bergen Railway. The railway connects Norway’s two largest cities and shows the diversity of the Norwegian landscape and scenery. It is classed as one of the finest train journeys in the world. At Myrdal you will change to the Flåm Railway, passing through wild and beautiful mountain scenery with waterfalls and steep mountain sides from a height of up to 900 metres and down to the Sognefjord. There is no other adhesion railway in the world that runs over such a long distance, and at such a steep gradient, on normal tracks. From Flåm you continue by boat on the Sognefjord, the world’s longest and deepest fjord, to Balestrand.

Accommodation at a 3* hotel or similar.

Day 3: Fjærland & Glacier Excursion*

Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will go on an excursion to Fjærland and the Glacier Museum. Travel on the Fjærlandsfjord and experience one of the most beautiful fjord arms in Norway. Along the fjord, the old hamlets and farms are reminders of the struggle for existence in past times. Local buses will transport you to the Glacier Museum, where you will learn more about the glaciers and how the fjords were formed. From there you will continue to two different extensions of the Jostedal Glacier; Supphellebreen and Bøyabreen glaciers (not possible to walk on the glaciers). Return by ferry to Balestrand.

Accommodation at a 3* hotel or similar.

* The Glacier excursion runs from 1 June - 31 August (dates might change) and not every day. In the case of this tour does not run, you will have the day at leisure in Balestrand.

Day 4: Balestrand – Sognefjord – Bergen (boat)

Breakfast at the hotel. Continue by boat on the Sognefjord and then along the coast in southern direction to Bergen – the Gateway to the Fjords. Bergen is Norway’s second largest city and the world’s only city surrounded by 7 mountains and 7 fjords.

Accommodation at a 3* hotel or similar.

Day 5: Bergen

Breakfast at the hotel. This day is free to explore Bergen at your own leisure. Attractions in Bergen include the Hanseatic Bryggen Wharf, Fløibanen Funicular, Troldhaugen, the Fish and Flower market, Bergen Aquarium and Gamle Bergen (Old Bergen Open Air Museum).

Accommodation at a 3* hotel or similar.

Day 6: Bergen – Hardangerfjord – Ulvik (bus/boat)

Breakfast at the hotel before departing from Bergen by bus. Just before reaching Norheimsund, you will pass the impressive Steindalsfossen Waterfall. From Norheimsund you will depart on a 3-hour cruise, from Hardangerfjord to Eidfjord. Hardangerfjord is the second largest fjord in Norway, and famous for its fruit orchards. The contrast created by green hillsides, orchards in blossom and snow-clad mountains has inspired many, and among them the well known Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg with his famous composition «Spring». If you are travelling in May, you will have the possibility to see the lovely blossoming of the fruit trees. In Eidfjord you will have 3 hours at your own leisure, which can be spent relaxing by the fjord, exploring the village or you can go on an optional sightseeing tour to Hardangervidda Nature Centre and the spectacular Vøringsfossen Waterfall, Norway’s highest waterfall (tickets for the excursion are available onboard). The last part of today’s journey is a 30-minute cruise to the small village of Ulvik, beautifully located by the Hardangerfjord.

Accommodation at a 3* hotel or similar.

Day 7: Ulvik – Voss – Oslo (bus/train)

Breakfast at the hotel. This day is at leisure to explore Ulvik, before departing by bus to Voss in the afternoon. During the bus ride you will pass through attractive farmland. In Voss you will transfer to the Bergen Railway, bringing you back to Oslo (evening arrival).

Accommodation at a 3* hotel or similar.

Day 8: Departure from Oslo

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure from Oslo to the airport for your return flight.

Accommodation at good tourist class hotels (3-4 stars). If any of the quoted hotels are fully booked we will find alternatives of equal standard.

July 2019
Overall rating: (5/5)

Dear Julija

We had an amazing trip thanks
We loved it!!
Our only small pointers
Please write on the daily itinerary to remind us to buy a ticket for the waterfall trip on the boat between Ulvik and Eidfjord - we forgot! Knew I’d seen it somewhere but it was in the brochure document.
The strand fjord hotel was a ok but not as nice as all the rest of the hotels which probably made it look worse then it was , it was ok just thin walls so you could hear people and felt a bit like a hostel. They do however give you a ‘free’ hire of bikes or kayaks - upto 7 activities if you have time.
We LOVED Ulvik itself - beautiful
Balestrand - the nature hikes that are there were great, there’s a cider house that does amazing Norwegian/ Turkish food, the man married a Turkish lady and now they do Norwegian food but presented in a Turkish way - like meze.
The thon hotel terminus we loved, so glad we swapped. The rooms were excellent and They include an evening meal as part of the room rate, only one choice but served w salad and bread and bits. That was really good and saved us a lot of money. A great place to start and finish the holiday.
We loved Bergen and Oslo
We loved Flåm
We loved the railway trip from olso to Myrdal - so beautiful!! Sit on the right of the train going out if you can!
Had a fantastic week, thanks for all your help!
Kerry

Transportation

Railway mostly serves domestic routes and is used as an easy and quick way to get from the capital to major cities of the country. There are some international routes, like to Moscow and St. Petersburg, but time spent on the way will be quite long.

Buses are one of the most convenient ways to travel between the Baltic States. Eurolines will get you between Riga, Vilnius and Tallinn. One way tickets will cost £ 15 - £ 20 and approximate travel time is 5 hours between the cities. Ticket reservations in advance are recommended.

Taxis are the quickest and most convenient way of travelling round the city. You'll find them located close to the main hotels. Usually it's quite easy to catch a taxi on the street, however, it's much better and safer to order one by phone. Taxi costs in all of the Baltic countries and Poland are approximately the same and a ride in the centre of the city will cost you approx £ 5 - £ 7.  Taxis in Finland and Russia are considerably more expensive.  It is always a good idea to get your hotel to book a taxi for you and ask approximately how much the trip will cost before you get in.

We would not recommend you to take public transportation within the city, as it's usually crowded and it may cause you unnecessary anxiety about where to stop.
