Summer Trekking in Svalbard

Overview:

This tour allows you to experience one of the Northern most land masses on Earth. Svalbard is a mere 1,000 kilometres from the North Pole and will give you the opportunity to explore some extraordinary nature and see Arctic wildlife in its natural habitat.

High Mountain peaks pointing the sky, azure blue glacier fronts, unspoiled scenery and a magnificent wildlife. Spitsbergen truly is a unique and exotic destination, and with its location at 78 degrees north, maybe the closest to the North Pole you will ever get! Enjoy the feeling of trapper life in Basecamp’s Trapper Lodge and the remoteness at Isfjord Radio.

Package price is £1,945 per person based on availability and 2 people sharing double or twin room. Single supplement is £300.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival in Spitsbergen – Husky wagon drive

On arrival at Longyear airport, the public airport coach will take you to Basecamp Trapper’s Hotel, Svalbard’s most unique hotel. In the afternoon, transfer to Bolterdalen where you will meet 80 excited Alaskan Huskies. The guide teaches how to harness the dogs and after assembling your own team, head off for summer-sledding on wheels for some hours. If you want to “upgrade” this tour, we can include a trappers’ dinner at the husky kennel (supplement). Return transfer to your hotel and the rest of the evening is at your leisure.

Day 2: Cruise to Isfjord

Breakfast in the Traveler’s Club at the hotel. It's then time to get ready for your overnight adventure. You will be equipped with warm, waterproof clothing and transferred to the quay. The professional guides will go through safety routines before embarking the open boats. On the way, enjoy the fantastic Isfjord stretching for more than 100km and Spitsbergen’s amazing animal wildlife. After arrival at the unique and remote Isfjord Radio, a former radio station, you are served a 2-course warm lunch. You will spend the afternoon exploring the vicinity and will learn a lot about the wildlife. In the evening, a 3-course dinner is served at the station. The cozy common rooms invite chatting, reading a book or just enjoying the view.

You return to the station for a 2-course lunch, before boarding the boats and heading back to Longyearbyen.
