Spring in Iceland

  By Visit Iceland

The best time for Iceland is almost any time. However spring, if you catch it, is special and can give you all the experiences of this magical island in one brief period. 335,000 people live in a country five times bigger than Wales, so there is plenty of room to explore and plenty of time to enjoy. Mountains, glaciers, geysers, lava fields, volcanoes, hot springs and a capital, Reykjavik, which runs on geo-thermal power. Truly, a great big country.

Iceland sits atop a geothermal hot spot and benefits from the Gulf Stream flowing past its shores. While it is never as cold as one might imagine, it is changeable so bring layers. Iceland also bestrides two tectonic plates: you can snorkel between two continents in the Pingvellir National Park.

Spring officially starts on the first Thursday after April 18th, though the Icelanders term this the first day of summer. It quite often snows on this day! However, snow is melting on the mountains and flowers are starting to bloom There is a still a good chance of seeing the Northern Lights; there are fewer travellers and better prices, so it is worth your while to look at a spring break in Iceland.

We know Iceland and we will take you there.

More about Spring in Iceland

Puffins start arriving in April and stay until September. There are few experiences more pleasurable than being surrounded by these friendly little creatures. Golden plovers normally beat the puffins to Iceland, arriving in March.

While the weather can still be cold, especially as one goes north, crocuses and lilies will pop up in gardens and the people of Iceland will welcome you and the spring.
