The Best of Mountains & Fjords

Only a few places in the world can offer a similar landscape like the spectacular fjords of Western Norway. The pristine mountains rise steeply from the fjords with thundering, huge waterfalls cascading down their sides. Along the fjord you can see multiple unique farmyards, a reminder of a time when the fjord was the most important transport route in the area.

More about Bergen

Arboretum and Botanical Gardens at Milde

Spread over an area of 125 acres, this open air showcase of natural flora has a variety of local and exotic trees and shrubs. The best time to visit the Arboretum is late May or early June, as this is when the Rhododendron blossoms. Moreover, the landscape of the botanical gardens is breathtaking, with hillocks, gorges, lakes and even a shoreline. Apart from visiting it so as to appreciate the several thousand species of trees in their natural environment and habitat, it is an ideal location for walks, hikes and swimming. The garden is open throughout the year and opens every morning at 10:00AM.

Bergen Aquarium

For an amazing insight into aquatic life, visit the Bergen Aquarium. While it sounds rather mundane, the actual setting of this huge aquarium is more fun than anything else and it makes a great place to visit for tourists. The Bergen Aquarium is one of the largest collections of aquatic fauna in Europe. Featuring over 1600 species of fish, sharks and other aquatic animals, it is a must see for people of all ages. The Aquarium is open from 10:00AM to 6:00PM in the winter season and from 9:00AM to 7:00PM during summer. There is a specific schedule provided for the feeding times and shows by the various animals that are kept in the aquarium. Each ticket can admit only 4.

Mountains around Bergen

Just like the famed hills in Hollywood, Bergen too has its own. The series of seven mountains around Bergen, at a distance of 2km at most from the main city, offer a great deal of scenic beauty. A visit to Bergen wouldn’t be complete without visiting these hills. The maximum elevation of any hill in the series is no more than 1000m so scaling them isn’t challenging, even for beginners. These hills can be visited at any point of time during the day, but the winter months are better avoided as there is the potential of a landslip or avalanche.

Skansen Fire Station

This fire station is significant as it was built right after a major fire in the city. While there is nothing impressive about the building, it was done in honor of those who lost their lives. The fire station is open throughout the year and day.

The city offers many more attractions and all are worth visiting. Try the Baltic Travel Company's tours to ensure that the best deals are offered.
