Vasamuseet
The Vasamuseet or Vasa Museum is the most important historical attraction in the city. While the building itself is rather new, what it holds is of utmost importance to Stockholm and even the country. The Vasa, a 380 year old warship that sank less than half an hour into its maiden voyage during the 17th century is housed in this museum. The Vasamuseet is dedicated to the ship and other aspects of Swedish history pertaining to warfare. The museum is open all days of the week from 10:00AM to 5:00PM but is extended to 8:00PM on Wednesdays.
Gamla Stan
The Gamla Stan is the medieval part of Stockholm, impeccably preserved right down to the finest details in the architecture. The setting is right out of a medieval movie that you might have watched with narrow alleyways and cobbled flooring. The Royal Palace is also in the Gamla Stan and is a sight to behold with the spires and other impressive aspects of its architecture.
Nordic Museum
Probably the best place not just in Stockholm or Sweden but the whole world to learn about Nordic Culture is the Nordic Museum. It features an audio guide that explains in detail everything you need to know about each exhibit. The culture and ways of the Vikings and the Nordic people are showcased in an exciting way in this museum and it is a must visit for anyone who goes to Stockholm. The museum opens at 10AM on all weekdays and at 11AM on weekends. It stays open till 4PM on weekdays except Wednesday when it closes at 8PM. On weekends, it is open till 5PM.
Stockholm Cathedral
Cathedrals are part of every European town and though the Stockholm Cathedral might not sound out of the ordinary, it features architecture which is unrivalled in its intricacy. When compared to the rest of Europe, the architecture is also of a different style. The Cathedral was the venue for all royal ceremonies and hence retains a regal air, making it a must-see for anyone visiting the city. As a cathedral, it is open on all days from 10AM to 6PM but special events tend to extend the timings.
