More about Stockholm

Stockholm as a Popular Destination

With Copenhagen at the number one position, Stockholm is the second most popularly visited city in the Nordic region and hence it is often called the ‘Venice of the North’.

The city is known for its vibrant, cosmopolitan atmosphere. With well-preserved monuments, modern architecture and extremely advanced buildings, a charming Old Town, several green parks and open spaces, Stockholm has become very popular with visitors from all around the world. The natural beauty of Stockholm has often been praised, with the vicinity of the lake and the Stockholm archipelago adding to the surroundings.

Climate and Weather in Stockholm

Even though the city has a northern location, the climate is fairly mild. The seasons are distinctly different from one-another because of the northern latitudinal position of the city, which results in variation in sunlight from season to season. The summer season is bright and warm with cool nights while the winters are harsh and cold.  In the summer the days have 18 hours of daylight while in the winter there are only 6 hours of daylight. The city experiences snowfall from November to April. The months of July and August experience the most amount of rainfall. Autumn in Stockholm is cool and experiences frequent rain showers. Spring season is mild and is the driest of all.

Sightseeing in Stockholm

The Stockholm archipelago is one of the most stunning sights in Stockholm, and probably in the entire world. Made up of 24,000 islands, rocks and islets the archipelago is unmatched in natural beauty. There are numerous ferry lines operating around the archipelago which the tourists can use for commuting. One can use the bridges and stop along the way to observe nature in its full glory.

The Royal Palace, built between 1697 and 1754, is the official residence of the monarch. Even though the royal family does not actually reside in the palace it is still used for ceremonial purposes. The palace is accessible to all. One can visit the Royal Apartments, the Treasury, the Tre Kronor Museum and much more once inside.

The Scandinavian Capitals Deluxe escorted tour package offered by the Baltic Travel Company is a grand way of touring Stockholm and also visiting Oslo, Copenhagen and Helsinki. The tour is spread over 9 days and 8 nights and is fairly priced.
