Day 1: Welcome to Wonderful Copenhagen

Arrival in Copenhagen according to your own itinerary. Welcome to the Capital of Denmark! In this charming city one thousand years of history awaits you in the medieval streets; the same streets walked on by every generation of the world's oldest royal family, the same streets and canals which have inspired artists for centuries and been home and workplace to meticulous craftsmen and famous designers. Sights of interests are The Royal Palace Amalienborg, The Little Mermaid statue and The Tivoli Garden.

Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will head further into Denmark and right into a fairy tale! Travel to Odense, the birth city of Hans Christian Andersen – the creator of the Little Mermaid and the Ugly Duckling. On the way you will cross the longest bridge in Europe, Storebæltbroen (the Great Belt Bridge, toll charge to be paid on spot), connecting the island of Sealand to Funen. Odense is a city that combines ancient and modern, but is also ideal to get familiar with one of the most popular products in Denmark: the craft beer!

Accommodation at First Hotel Grand or similar

Day 3: Odense – Århus (145 km/90 miles)

Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will head west and reach a small but nevertheless well-known place in Denmark, Billund. Billund is home of the famous Legoland: a miniature world built entirely of Lego. Then continue north-east to Aarhus, also known as Smilets By, The City of Smiles, one of the great cities of Jutland where an open-air museum, Den Gamle By, is located. This museum is devoted to culture and customs of local people from 1500 until today.

Accommodation at First hotel Atlantic or similar

Day 4: Århus – Helsingør-Helsingborg – Växjö (420 km/260 miles)

Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will be heading to Sweden. But first a ferry will take you across the Great Belt to Odden. You will then drive by Roskilde with its famous cathedral, dating from the twelfth century. In addition, you can visit the Viking Ship Museum admire its ancient 80 vessels dating back to the year 1000. The next checkpoint is Helsingør also known as Elsinore. William Shakespeare called the city this in his famous play Hamlet which takes place at Kronborg Castle. During the summer the Castle is open for visitors with guided tours in English daily. From Helsingør you will make a short ferry crossing to Sweden. Continue driving up north through a landscape full of small lakes and deep forests. In this region the world famous furniture store IKEA was founded by Ingvar Kamprad who grew up not far from Växjö.

Accommodation at Clarion Collection hotel Cardinal or similar

Day 5: Växjö – The Kingdom of Crystal – Kalmar (134 km/83 miles)

Breakfast at the hotel. You will continue driving east through the Kingdom of Crystal. The tradition of glass blowing started in this region more than 500 years ago. The forests and many lakes in Småland were a pre-condition for the growth of glassworks in the1700’s. Wood from the forest kept the glass furnaces burning and the sand from the lake bottoms was transformed into magnificent glass. At the beginning of the 1900’s there were around 100 glassworks in the region. On your way to Kalmar you will be passing two of the greatest and world famous glassworks Orrefors and Kosta (Kosta Boda). We warmly recommend a visit where you will see the making of the glass and you might even get to try the fine art of glass blowing.

Accommodation at First Hotel Witt or similar (2 nights)

Day 6: Kalmar & Öland

Breakfast at the hotel. The history of Kalmar dates back to the 11th century which makes it one of Sweden’s oldest cities. One of the most famous landmarks of Kalmar is the Kalmar Castle which was originally built during the 12th century. However, the Castle acquired its present appearance in the 16th century, when the Vasa kings Erik XIV and Johan III rebuilt it in the style of a Renaissance palace and furnished it in a continental manner. The Castle is open daily for visitors during the summer season. Just outside Kalmar the Island of Öland is located. The island is famous for its many windmills and long sandy beaches. It offers a great variety of nature and on the southern part you will find ‘Stora Alvaret’, a limestone pavement where many rare plant and animal species live.

Day 7: Kalmar – Brösarp ( 232 km/144 miles)

Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will be heading further south to the province of Skåne. On your way the landscape will change from deep forests to an open landscape with great yellow rape fields. The village of Brösarp is located in the heart of Österlen. This region is famous for its beautiful nature and landscape, picturesque coast communities and apple gardens. Your home for the next two nights is The Brösarp Gästgifveri - a cosy and authentic guesthouse with manors from 1684. This is the place for total relaxation and pleasure.

Accommodation and dinner at Brösarp Gästgifveri (2 nights)

Day 8: Brösarp

Breakfast at the hotel. Today we suggest a day excursion along the coast and to the spectacular Ales Stenar – Ale’s Stones is 59 mysterious stone monoliths arranged by our ancestors approx. 5000 years ago. The formation of the stones is in the shape of a ship, but nobody knows for sure what the original purpose was behind this ancient, powerful symbolism. Perhaps it was a meeting place for rituals, held to mark the changing of the seasons? Many different interpretations have been put forward for these majestic stones. On your way back we recommend a stop in Kivik and the Kivik Äppelmusteri – which produces products such as cider, juice, jams etc. from apples growing in the area. The ‘factory’ is open daily during the summer and it is possible to visit the great garden and the small shop.

Day 9: Brösarp – Copenhagen

Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will be heading back to Copenhagen. Drive along Sweden’s southernmost coast line towards Malmö, the third largest city in Sweden. From here you will enter the Öresundsbridge that connects Sweden and Denmark (to be paid on the spot) The construction of the bridge started in 1995 and was finished in 1999. The bridge covers half way between Denmark and Sweden and the rest is connected by an underwater tunnel that starts from the artificial island ‘Peberholmen’ – Pepper Island which was built together with the bridge.
