Fishing in Sweden is not just about big seas and tough fishing. The lakes of all Sweden abound with pike, pikeperch and trout.
Try Ormeshaga, three hours drive from Malmo and almost its own country. Next to Lake Rottnen in Smaland province, Ormeshaga offers well-stocked boats; knowledgeable guides and accommodation in well-equipped lakeside cabins. From May to September, catch tench and bream and for the two months of August and September, join in the crawfish celebrations with great white wine, buckets of this favourite delicacy and lakeside parties.
Mind you, with over 100,000 lakes in Sweden, you can never be far from a great fishing opportunity. Lake Vanern, in the south-west, is over 5,600 square kilometres and has its own weather system. Going north, the environment gets harder, the climate less forgiving and the lakes teem with Artic char, grayling and brown trout.
Go north and maybe try your hand at fishing in the Arctic Circle, though a guide is recommended in this pristine, unpopulated region. Fish will be plentiful, but look out for the Northern Lights - Mother Nature's very own light show - in winter and forget about dark nights if you are fishing during the Midnight Sun period of summer.
As for the sea, there's a lot of it to the east, south and west and you can hire a boat or fish straight off the rocky coastilne for cod, mackerel, garfish and sea trout. Take a specially guided lobster and/or oyster expedition and enjoy your catch.
We know Sweden and we will take you there.
